Inform the compiler to ignore this method and not to produce Dalvik code

Inform only the Android Lint tool with which minimum API level the method is supposed to be valid (int parameter), but does not modify the generation of Dalvik code

Allow Android not to call the method (the implementation is replaced by an empty code) when the application is running

To prevent the application from being installed on terminals that have an API level strictly lower than the int parameter
